A Free Summer Day at Luciano Sq. Originally published in: Wednesday, July 6, 2019 On the corner of Luciano and 77th Streets, legendary producer, artist, and global ambassador Luciano Pavarotti passed away in July of 2007. His passing marked a different ending to his career, from his 35-year-long 20th anniversary tour to the release of the opera recording of the Met’s production of Tosca, featuring Renée Fleming and Juan Diego Florez. In celebration of Pavarotti’s life and career, and in the spirit of the “Sogni d’Italia” project that Pavarotti championed, the Italian Cultural Institute was commissioned to produce the special artwork that will adorn the monumental fountain that is planned to be installed on the north side of Luciano Square this fall. The main theme of the fountain will be the birth of a new Italy and the themes that it wishes to represent. The fountain will be the centerpiece of a new public space that will be a central meeting point for the communities of the Upper East Side and Riverdale, and a space where visitors can gather for concerts, exhibitions, dance, film, and other cultural events. The fountain will be unveiled on July 9 at 2:00 PM, the 35th anniversary of Pavarotti’s passing. In addition to the unveiling, the Community Board 3 is hosting a series of events in Luciano Square between July 10 and August 31, 2020. The program will feature the unveiling of new
